Linda Morais and Mitchell Krauter of the wrestling team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 12.
Morais, a rookie wrestler, finished first in the 59 kilos weight class at the Atlantic/Quebec qualifying tournament held in Fredericton last Saturday. Her efforts earned her praise from the Concordia coaches and a berth at the CIS national championships at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ont., Feb. 24-25.
An 18-year-old native of Tecumseh, Ont., Morais is currently studying Exercise Science at Concordia.
Krauter, a second-year wrestler, took first place in the 76 kilos weight class at the Atlantic/Quebec qualifying tournament last Saturday. His performance was also praised by the Stingers coaches. He has earned his second straight invite to the nationals. He is looking to improve on his 2011 performance, when he finished in eighth place after an injury forced him to withdraw.
The 19-year-old student from Lemington, Ont. is studying History at Concordia.
