After an accomplished five-year university basketball career with the Concordia Stingers, Ernie Rosa joined the team as an assistant coach in 1993. He has helped head coach John Dore take the Stingers to eight titles in the Quebec conference. Together they have taken Concordia to the national championship tournament eight times, placing second in 1995 and 2005.
Rosa’s history as a player is equally impressive. He was a captain with the Stingers in his final season. He was also a first team conference all-star in the 1991-92 season. A power forward, Rosa has been a member of two national championship teams, one in 1987 at Vanier College and the other in 1990 as a member of the Concordia Stingers. Both of these outstanding teams have since been inducted into their respective Sports Hall of Fames.
Away from the court, Rosa has dedicated his career to incorporating athletics into the lives of young people, particularly those from the inner city. He is the Director of Sports and Recreation at the Sun Youth Organization. He has a strong sense of community and a strong belief in hard work, discipline and honesty. These are the building blocks of success he tries to instill in all his players.
Rosa graduated from Concordia with a bachelor’s degree in 1991. He returned to the university to pursue a graduate diploma in Sports Administration, completing his studies in 1994.
