LEAGUE RULES
Revised August 20th.
1.0 Eligibility
The Concordia Dome Soccer League (CDSL) is open to all participants, including the public. Priority will be given to Concordia Students.
The spirit of the league is to provide its participants a positive recreational experience incorporating a high spirit of sportsmanship, fair play and mutual respect between players.
The league will feature two match days Tuesdays and Thursdays.
To be eligible to play, all teams must have paid their registration fees before the start of play.

2.0 On the Field
2.1 All team members are required to wear numbered and similar-coloured jerseys. Jerseys can be borrowed from the office in exchange for an I.D. card.
This must be done prior to the game and is the responsibility of team captains or representative.
2.2 In addition, ALL PLAYERS MUST PRESENT A PHOTO I.D. TO THE REFEREE PRIOR TO THE START OF THE MATCH.. The cards will be returned after the game.
2.3 Team captains will introduce themselves to the officials prior to the start of the game. Only team captains or representatives are allowed to consult with officials during and after games. Any explanations about the calls made by officials will be briefly given during game time, with more details provided after the game if requested
2.4 Teams must be prepared to play at their allotted game time. A team which has 5 players present at their allotted game time cannot willingly for any reason default their game. In such an event the league coordinator will take strict actions to preserve the integrity of the league. In addition, if at any time during the course of play, a team fails to supply the minimum required number (5)of players because of penalty, game ejection or injury, a default loss will be awarded.
Note: No game will extend outside of its allotted time. Delayed games will have their length cut.
Teams must have a minimum of ten (10) registered players.
2.5 A maximum of 2 current varsity players may play for any given team.
2.6 Teams must submit contact phone numbers or email addresses for at least 2 representatives beside the team captain.
** No additions to team rosters will be allowed after Week 12 of the season **
SPARE PLAYERS
2.7 Teams may use spare players
to compensate for roster players who may not be able to attend a scheduled game.
Use of spare players
Spare players will be required to pay the appropriate day pass fee before the game. Spare players must present their DayPass to the game official before the start of the match. Management of substitute players is the captain's responsibility.
No substitute or replacement players (after the deadline) will be allowed to play in the post-season.
2.8 Defaulted friendly games will be played without active refereeing.
League statistics will be posted weekly on the CDSL website
3.0 Equipment
3.1 All players must wear running or soccer shoes. Metal cleats will not be accepted, nor sandals or “hiking” boots or jeans.
3.2 In addition, all players are encouraged to wear shin pads. This is done for the safety of the players.
*** To deter theft, please ensure that all players' personal belongings are grouped together and that players' keep watch on their equipment during matches. ***
4.0 Game Rules
The CDSL uses a set of house rules that draws from a variety of soccer leagues, including the FIFA rule book. The rules outlined below are not meant to be exhaustive but to provide to league members a general indication of expected conduct.
4.0 Games will consist of two x 24-minute (running-time) halves, with a short rest in between. There is no added time at the end of the halves
4.1 The game is played with each side fielding six players and a goaltender. If a team is not ready to commence play (with at least 5 players) within 5 minutes of the scheduled start time, the opponent will be awarded a default win.
4.2 There are no off-sides.
4.3 Substitutions may occur at any stoppage of play or “on the fly”. However, they must take place behind your own team’s goal. However, they must take place behind your own team’s goal.
4.4 After scoring a goal, the team must retreat to their “defensive half” of the court to play the ball again.
4.5 A goal may only be scored from the “attacking half” of the field, meaning in the opponents half.
4.6 The official shall stop play when the ball is considered out of play or for an infraction. A change of possession will occur at the point of the infraction.
4.7 Free kicks will be awarded for fouls. All free kicks are indirect with the exception of a penalty decision. For an indirect free kick, the opposing team must be at least 5 yards away from the ball.
4.8 Penalties will awarded at the discretion of the referee and will be taken 11 yards from the goal line.
Handballs
• Referees will call only DELIBERATE handballs (i.e. if player intentionally strikes the ball with hand or arm).
• The upper part of the shoulders is not considered a handball. If a player uses his hands to protect from a hard shot, the call will be at the referee’s discretion.
• ALL handballs called by the referee result in DIRECT free-kicks. Handballs inside the box result in a penalty kick.
4.9 Over-time – Will only be used for playoffs. It will consist of one, 10 minute, extra-time period. The extra-time period is not sudden-death, and if the score remains tied at the conclusion of the extra-time period, then penalty kicks will follow to determine a winner.. This is essentially the “silver goal” rule.
5.0 Fouls
a. Minor Fouls – Ex. Hand ball, slide tackle, minor contact, tripping, obstruction >>> Indirect free kick from point of infraction.
b. Major Fouls (Yellow or Red card): - Ex. excessive rough play, repeated slide tackle , unsportsmanlike conduct, abuse of an official, abuse of players from opposing team or own team.
** NEW RULE 2011**, Intentional contact / Verbal abuse
1. Any player who during the course of a stoppage (ie., after play is whistled) who intentionally contacts an opposing player will be issued a RED CARD.
2. Any player who during the course of a stoppage (ie., after play is whistled) who is verbally abusive towards another player will be issued, a the official’s discretion, a YELLOW or RED card.
Playoffs
The top four (4) teams from each division will advance to post-season play.
The following tie-breakers (in descending order) will determine final playoff positions in case of a tie (on points) in the standings
- Head-to-head competition
- Most wins in the Division
- Greater goal differential in the Division
Teams positioned higher in the standings will be given the option of keeping their own jerseys if a colour conflict is present.
ALL players will be required to show a photo I.D. before each playoff game.
**Substitute players are not allowed to participate in post-season play.

** Suspensions: Any player receiving a second yellow card during a match will automatically receive a Red Card and will be expelled from the game and will, as a minimum, automatically be suspended for the next game. In addition, if a player receives 4 yellow cards during the course of the season, they will be assessed a red card.
Upon receipt of a yellow card, the player must leave the game for 5 minutes and subsequently be substituted. After serving the 5 minutes penalty, the player can resume the game.
Upon receipt of a red card, a player will automatically be suspended, as a minimum, for the next scheduled game. Additional suspension(s) will be made at the discretion of the league coordinator. The player must leave the league premises immediately.
Notes
- Any player who refuses to produce an I.D. card when requested by league officials will automatically be released from the league.
- Threats to players or game officials will not be tolerated. Anyone caught threatening another individual will be automatically expelled from the league and will receive a lifetime ban!
- Cheating will not be tolerated.
6.0 Dome Rules
All players must abide by the Dome rules and regulations and safety procedures.
All players must abide by the instructions of the Dome Facility Supervisor
7.0 Weather/Cancellation Guideline:
In the case of inclement weather such as snow storm, unless a match(s) has been cancelled by the deadline, teams are expected to attend games as noted on the league schedule.
Weather Cancellation Guideline:
To ensure the safety of all participants, play in the Stinger Dome may be suspended during periods where high winds are present or anticipated. Due to the transitory nature of wind conditions, please contact the Campus Recreation office (514-848-2424 ext. 3858) for updated information when windy conditions are present.
Agreement and Waiver of Liability
** ALL captains' must disclose the contents of the waiver noted below to ALL players on their respective teams' prior to the start of the season and/or any game involving spare players. **
Waiver for Team Captain or Rental Group leader
All team captains, leaders and/or other persons responsible for groups using Concordia University’s Recreation and Athletics facilities are responsible for communicating the following important information to individual participants under their responsibility and/or supervision.
Team Captains and/or Rental Group leaders hereby declare and warrant that they have communicated the following warnings to participants:
All participants recognize and accept that their participation in activities, offered or taking place on Concordia University’s Recreation and Athletics facilities, including the programs, classes and equipment including but not limited to the Loyola Campus Arena, Stinger Dome, weight room, outdoor playing fields and gymnasium, is solely at the risk of each individual participant. All participants recognize and accept all liability for any injury, accident or loss of personal property and hereby release Concordia University, its agents, representatives and employees from all liabilities for any direct, special, incidental, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, regardless of the form of action arising from or related to by our use of the facilities or our participation in the activities held in these facilities and/or offered by the facilities, except for claims or losses resulting from willful misconduct or gross negligence of Concordia University, its agents, representatives and employees. Participants must be in good physical condition and must have appropriate insurance coverage including medical coverage.
Participants agree to follow the facilities' instructional guidelines and to abide by all University policies and Codes, as applicable, regardless of whether or not they are members of the University community. Participants agree and accept that if they fail to abide by said University Policies and Codes as well as all applicable laws and regulations, their access to the facilities, equipment and/or participation in a program, if applicable, may be immediately cancelled and/or revoked and their access to the premises, use of the equipment and right to participate in a program in the future access, may be denied.
